 American World War II hero Louis "Louie" Zamperini, a former USA Olympic track star, survives a plane crash in the Pacific, spends 47 days drifting on a raft, and then more than two and a half years living in several Japanese prisoner of war camps.Universal Pictures purchased the rights to the book in January 2011, having already acquired the film rights to Zamperini's life towards the end of the 1950s.[5] Early drafts for the film were written by William Nicholson and Richard LaGravenese while Francis Lawrence was scheduled to direct. Joel and Ethan Coen were then tapped to rewrite the script after Jolie was named director. On September 30, 2013, Jolie was confirmed to direct the film in Australia. Walden Media was originally set as Universal's co-financer, but withdrew from the project prior to filming and were subsequently replaced by Legendary Pictures. The filming was based in New South Wales and Queensland, with scenes also shot in Fox Studios Australia and Village Roadshow Studios. The filming began on October 21, 2013, with the post-production also being done in Australia. Some of the scenes were shot at sea in Moreton Bay on October 16, 2013.On December 14, four days of filming were completed in Werris Creek, New South Wales. The official film soundtrack was released on December 15, 2014, through Parlophone and Atlantic Records. The film score was composed by Alexandre Desplat. The album also features "Miracles", a song written and recorded by British alternative rock band Coldplay, which was released digitally as a single on December 15. The score received a mixed critical reaction upon initial release. Callum Hofler of Entertainment Junkie stated during his review of the score that, "At its finest, Unbroken is perhaps Desplat's strongest and most resonant emotional work since The Tree of Life or Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, both from 2011. It comes off as bold, ambitious, yet intimate and sentimental all the same. It can be an elegant and harmonious exploration of human determination, drive and spirit." He also criticised numerous components, claiming that, "In most cases though, the primary issue with the album is its lack of energy and vitality. There is many a time where the music seems to just sit in place, lacking major progression in character, motive or mindset." He awarded the score a final rating of 6 out of 10.[15] Jorn Tillnes of Soundtrack Geek acclaimed the album, stating, "This score is pretty great. It’s been a really good year for Desplat. Godzilla and The Monuments Men at the top of the pile, but this is not far behind." He summarized with, "It is a turning point though for those who think Desplat is about boring bass rhythms and motifs. This might even get the haters to respect him as a composer." He awarded the score an 87.8 out of 100. All music composed by Alexandre Desplat, except "Miracles" written by Coldplay. Reviews for Unbroken have been mixed. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds a rating of 48%, based on 110 reviews, with an average rating of 6.1/10. The site's consensus reads "Unbroken is undoubtedly well-intentioned, but it hits a few too many of the expected prestige-pic beats to register as strongly as it should." On Metacritic, the film has a score of 59 out of 100, based on 42 critics, indicating "mixed or average reviews". After an early screening, Japanese nationalists asked for the film and the director to be banned from their country, due to their accusation that the film shows them in a negative stereotypical light. In response, it triggered a petition by The Indo Project voicing support for the movie as they see it as a reflection of what their family members in the former Dutch East Indies experienced in Japanese camps.

 In 1300 BC, Moses, a general and member of the royal family, prepares to attack the Hittite army with Prince Ramesses. Seti I tells the two men of a recent prophecy in which one will save the other and become a leader. During the attack on the Hittites, Moses saves Ramesses' life, leaving both men troubled. Later, Moses is sent to the city of Pithom to meet with the Viceroy Hegep, who oversees the Hebrew slaves. Upon his arrival, he encounters the slave Joshua and is appalled by the horrific conditions of the slaves. Shortly afterwards, Moses meets Nun, who informs him of his true lineage; he is the child of Hebrew parents who was sent by his sister Miriam to be raised by Pharaoh's daughter. Moses is stunned at the revelation and leaves angrily. However, two Hebrews also overhear Nun's story and report their discovery to Hegep. Seti dies shortly after Moses' return to Memphis, and Ramesses becomes the new Pharaoh. Hegep arrives to reveal Moses' true identity, but Ramesses is conflicted about whether to believe the story. At the urging of Queen Tuya, he interrogates the servant Miriam, who denies being Moses' sister. When Ramesses threatens to cut off Miriam's arm, Moses comes to her defence, revealing he is a Hebrew. Although Tuya wants Moses to be put to death, Ramesses decides to send him into exile. Before leaving Egypt, Moses meets with his birth mother and Miriam, who refer to him by his birth name of Moishe. Following a journey into the desert, Moses comes to Midian where he meets Zipporah and her father, Jethro. Moses becomes a shepherd, marries Zipporah and has a son Gershom. Nine years later, Moses gets injured during a rockslide. He comes face to face with a burning bush and a boy called Malak, who serves as a representation of God. While recovering, Moses confesses his past to Zipporah and reveals what God has asked him to do. This drives a wedge between the couple, because Zipporah fears he will leave their family. After he arrives in Egypt, Moses reunites with Nun and Joshua, as well as meeting his brother Aaron for the first time. Using his military skills, he trains the slaves in the art of war. The Hebrews start attacking the Egyptians, prompting Ramesses to execute slaves until Moses gives himself up. Malak appears to Moses and explains that ten plagues will affect Egypt. All the water in the land turns to blood, and the Egyptians are further afflicted by the arrival of frogs, lice, and flies. Moses returns to confront Ramesses, demanding the Hebrews be released from servitude. Ramesses refuses to listen, insisting that to free the slaves would be economically impossible. The plagues of the death of livestock, boils, hail and thunder, locusts, and darkness continue to affect the Egyptians. While conversing with Malak, Moses is horrified at learning the tenth plague will be the death of all firstborn children. The Hebrews protect themselves by covering their doors with the blood of lambs, as instructed to them by Moses. Ramesses is devastated over his son's death and relents, telling Moses and the Hebrews to leave.

 Good-Bye to All That, an autobiography by Robert Graves, first appeared in 1929, when the author was thirty-four. "It was my bitter leave-taking of England," he wrote in a prologue to the revised second edition of 1957, "where I had recently broken a good many conventions". The title may also point to the passing of an old order following the cataclysm of the First World War; the inadequacies of patriotism, the rise of atheism, feminism, socialism and pacifism, the changes to traditional married life, and not least the emergence of new styles of literary expression, are all treated in the work, bearing as they did directly on Graves' life. The unsentimental and frequently comic treatment of the banalities and intensities of the life of a British army officer in the First World War gave Graves fame,notoriety and financial security, but the book's subject is also his family history, childhood, schooling and, immediately following the war, early married life; all phases bearing witness to the "particular mode of living and thinking" that constitute a poetic sensibility.A large part of the book is taken up by his experience of the First World War, in which Graves served as a lieutenant, then captain in the Royal Welch Fusiliers, alongside his equally famous comrade Siegfried Sassoon. Goodbye to All That provides a detailed description of trench warfare, including the tragic incompetence of the Battle of Loos and the bitter fighting in the first phase of the Somme Offensive. In the Somme engagement, Graves was severely wounded while leading his men through the cemetery at Bazentin-le-petit church on 20 July 1916. The wound was so severe, in fact, that military authorities erroneously reported to his family that he had died. While mourning his death, Graves's family received word from him that he still lived, and put an announcement to that effect in the newspapers. The book also contains a secondhand description of the killing of German prisoners of war by British troops. Although Graves had not witnessed any incidents himself and knew of no large-scale massacres, he had been told about a number of incidents in which prisoners had been killed individually or in small groups. Consequently he was prepared to believe that a proportion of Germans who surrendered never made it to prisoner-of-war camps. "Nearly every instructor in the mess" he wrote, "could quote specific instances of prisoners having been murdered on the way back. The commonest motives were, it seems, revenge for the death of friends or relatives, [and] jealousy of the prisoner's trip to a comfortable prison camp in England". Graves was severely traumatised by his war experience. After he was wounded in the lung by a shell blast he endured a squalid five-day train journey with unchanged bandages. During the war he received an electric shock using a trench telephone which scared him so much that he did not use one again until twelve years after the event. Upon his return home, he describes being haunted by ghosts and nightmares.

 Annie is a Broadway musical based upon the popular Harold Gray comic strip Little Orphan Annie, with music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin, and the book by Thomas Meehan. The original Broadway production opened in 1977 and ran for nearly six years, setting a record for the Alvin Theatre (now the Neil Simon Theatre). It spawned numerous productions in many countries, as well as national tours, and won the Tony Award for Best Musical. The musical's songs "Tomorrow" and "It's the Hard Knock Life" are among its most popular musical numbers.It's 1933 and eleven year old Annie is in the Municipal Girls Orphanage, along with Molly (age 6), Kate (age 7), Tessie (age 10), Pepper (age 12), July and Duffy (both 13). When Molly awakes from a bad dream at 3 am, angering Pepper and Duffy, July then tells them to hush up and eventually gets into a fight with Pepper. Annie gets up and tells everyone to go back to sleep. Molly then asks if Annie could read her note from when her parents left her at the orphanage. Duffy and Pepper are yet again annoyed. Along with Kate, Pepper and Duffy imitate Annie's acting as if they were her parents. ("Maybe"). Annie decides to escape to find her parents, but is caught by Miss Hannigan, who is currently suffering from a hangover. She is angered by this and forces all the girls to vigorously clean the orphanage ("Hard Knock Life"). Shortly after, Mr. Bundles, the laundry man, comes in to pick up the blankets. While Miss Hannigan is flirting with him, Annie climbs into the laundry basket and the orphans cover her up with the blankets. Once Miss Hannigan realizes she is gone, the other orphans express their frustration ("Hard Knock Life (Reprise)"). Annie successfully escapes, running into a friendly stray dog. As she comforts him, she tells him of better days yet to come ("Tomorrow"). The dog catcher is after him, so she pretends he is hers by calling him Sandy. Though at first unsuccessful, he is convinced, and she continues. She later finds a Hooverville, where people made homeless by the Great Depression have come together as a community ("We'd Like To Thank You, Herbert Hoover"). However, a policeman named Lt. Ward (who had been sent by Miss Hannigan) catches Annie and brings her back. Grace Farrell, assistant to the billionaire Oliver Warbucks, comes to the orphanage asking for an orphan to come to his mansion for the Christmas holiday. Because Annie was in Miss Hannigan's office, Grace asks to take her, and Miss Hannigan reluctantly agrees. Once she has left, Miss Hannigan explodes with her hatred for all the girls in the orphanage ("Little Girls").

Following Bolg to the fortress of Gundabad, Legolas and Tauriel see Bolg with a huge Orc army and hundreds of war-bred bats. When Thranduil’s army arrives in Dale, he forges an allegiance with Bard to claim a necklace of white gems from Thorin's treasure. Though Bard attempts to reason with Thorin to avoid further bloodshed, the Dwarf refuses to listen, much to his company's dismay. After Gandalf arrives at Dale, Bilbo sneaks out of Erebor to hand the Arkenstone over to Thranduil and Bard. The next day, Bard unveils the Arkenstone at the gates of Erebor. When Thorin learns of Bilbo's actions he almost kills the Hobbit. Luckily, the other Dwarves hold off their leader so Bilbo can escape down the wall to Gandalf. A dwarf company under Dain Ironfoot II arrives and is about to attack the Elves on Thorin's call, but Azog sends one branch of his army to attack Dain's army. Azog sends the rest of his forces to attack Dale with Bilbo, Gandalf, Bard, and the Elves coming to its defense.

It was first reported in December 2010 that Anderson wanted to adapt Inherent Vice and at the time he had been writing a treatment and started on a script after The Master had been shelved indefinitely months prior. Anderson originally adapted the entire 384 page novel sentence by sentence which made it easier for him to cut down the script than the novel.By February 2011, Anderson had written a first draft and was more than halfway done with a second draft. The first draft was written without a narrator but the character of Sortilège was later added as the narrator. In September 2012, Anderson stated that he was still writing the script but was hoping he could get Inherent Vice into production and have a few years of being more productive. This is the first film adaptation from a Thomas Pynchon novel with Anderson describing it "like a Cheech & Chong movie".Years prior, Anderson considered adapting Pychon's 1990s novel Vineland but could not figure out how but when Inherent Vice came out he was drawn to it and wrote the film concurrently with The Master. Anderson significantly changed the ending from the novel and described the film as "deeply written and beautifully profound stuff mixed in with just the best fart jokes and poop jokes that you can imagine." Anderson drew inspiration from Kiss Me Deadly, The Big Sleep, Raymond Chandler's The Long Goodbye, and Cheech & Chong's Up in Smoke. Anderson has said he tried to cram as many jokes onto the screen as Pynchon squeezed onto the page and that the visual gags and gimmicks were inspired by Zucker, Abrahams and Zucker-style slapstick spoofs like Police Squad!, Top Secret!, and Airplane!. Anderson also used the underground comic strip Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers as what he described as an invaluable "research bible" for the writing process. Robert Downey, Jr. was reportedly said to be interested in the role of Larry "Doc" Sportello and was making plans to start shooting in the fall of 2011 since Downey, Jr. had dropped out of Oz the Great and Powerful. Downey, Jr. stated in December 2011 that the planned collaboration was "probably true". In January 2013, it was reported that Joaquin Phoenix was in talks for the lead and that Downey, Jr. has ultimately passed on the role.Downey, Jr. later said that Anderson wanted to make the movie with Joaquin Phoenix because Downey, Jr. was too old. In May 2013, it was reported that Benicio del Toro, Owen Wilson, Reese Witherspoon, Martin Short, and Jena Malone were in talks to join the film. Filming began in May 2013, and it was reported that shooting was to take place until August 2, 2013. Shooting permits covered San Fernando Valley warehouse, a storefront on Slauson Boulevard, driving shots in the Canoga Park area, driving shots in canyon roads above Malibu and a warehouse in Chinatown. In June 2014, filming also took place in Pasadena. The set has been described as organized chaos but the cast felt protected when they took big risks. Short stated that "If you’re working with a great director, you feel very, very, very safe because you know that all the decisions will be made months later in the editing room."Malone stated that "it was a very structured process" and that the "chaos can only come from a grounded, logical base because you have to know where you’re going to be spinning from. The logic becomes the chaos and the chaos becomes the logic." According to Waterston, Anderson didn't have a clear goal while on set but it didn't feel chaotic.Brolin expressed similar feelings saying that "It was crazy, chaotic but really, really gratifying." Brolin also stated that there was "a really strange lack of pretense" but that Anderson would work with the actors when they felt something wasn't working. Pieterse stated that Anderson allowed "freedom and flexibility to really dive into your character and shape the scene". Wilson said "Sometimes I wouldn’t necessarily know what I was doing. We were encouraged to kind of do anything." On February 6, 2014, The Film Music Reporter confirmed that Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood will compose the music for the film. His score was be recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London. This is the third time Greenwood has scored an Anderson film, the first two being There Will Be Blood and The Master. An unreleased Radiohead song called "Spooks" appears on the soundtrack,as do recordings from the late 1960s by Neil Young, Can, and The Marketts, among others. The film soundtrack will be released by Nonesuch Records on December 16. Inherent Vice premiered as the centerpiece at the New York Film Festival on October 4, 2014. The film is set enter a limited release run on December 12, 2014,before going wide on January 9, 2015.

Amelia convinces a doctor to prescribe sedatives to help Samuel sleep, and also medication for herself, so that she may finally sleep after being kept up for so long by her son's issues. After a strange phone call, Amelia goes to the police to report a stalker, but the police tell her that they are unable to do anything—especially when she is unable to produce the storybook. Prue and Warren from the Department of Community Services visit Amelia’s house to inspect Samuel’s home life, and leave paperwork for her to complete until their return visit. As more inexplicable events and strange visions occur, Amelia gradually comes to believe that the Babadook is haunting her and her son, and that she is becoming possessed. With her mental health deteriorating, Amelia shows signs that she intends to inflict harm upon Samuel. Samuel stabs her in the leg with a kitchen knife during an altercation and leads Amelia into the booby-trapped basement, where he captures her among stored items belonging to Oskar. The film was inspired by the memoir Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen by Jane Hawking, which deals with her relationship with her ex-husband theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking, his diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and his success in physics. This is the sixth feature film directed by James Marsh. Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones star with Charlie Cox, Emily Watson, Simon McBurney and David Thewlis featured in supporting roles. The Theory of Everything had its world premiere at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival and was released in theaters on November 7, 2014. Focus Features will distribute the film in the United States, Entertainment One Films will distribute the film in Canada, and Universal Pictures will distribute the film in remaining territories.Screenwriter Anthony McCarten had been interested in Hawking since reading his seminal book A Brief History of Time in 1988. In 2004, McCarten read Jane Hawking's memoir Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen and subsequently began writing a screenplay adaptation of the book with no guarantees in place. He met numerous times with Jane at her home to discuss the project. After multiple drafts, he was introduced in 2009 to producer Lisa Bruce via their mutual ICM agent, Craig Bernstein. Lisa Bruce spent three years with McCarten further convincing Jane Hawking to agree to a film adaptation of her book, with Bruce stating, "It was a lot of conversation, many glasses of sherry, and many pots of tea." On 18 April 2013, James Marsh was confirmed to direct the film with the shooting being based in Cambridge and at other locations in the United Kingdom, with Redmayne courted to fill the male lead of the piece.[11] On 23 June 2013, it was revealed that Jones was confirmed to play the film's female lead role opposite Redmayne. On 8 October 2013, it was confirmed that Watson and Thewlis had joined the cast, and that Working Title's Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Lisa Bruce and Anthony McCarten would be producing the piece. Filmmaker James Marsh had studied archival images to give the film its authenticity, stating, "When we had photographs and documentary footage of Stephen that related to our story, we tried to reproduce them as best we could." [16] Redmayne met with Hawking himself, commenting, "Even now, when he's unable to move, you can still see such effervescence in his eyes." And described portraying Hawking on-screen as a "hefty" challenge, adding that, "The real problem with making a film is of course you don’t shoot chronologically. So it was about having to really try and chart his physical deterioration [so] you can jump into it day-to-day, whilst at the same time keeping this spark and wit and humour that he has."

Big Hero 6 is a 2014 American 3D computer-animated superhero-comedy-drama film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. The film is directed by Don Hall and Chris Williams, and is the 54th animated feature in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series. Inspired by the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name,[4] the film tells the story of a young robotics prodigy named Hiro Hamada, who forms a superhero team to combat a masked villain responsible for the death of Hiro's older brother. Big Hero 6 is the first Disney animated feature film to feature Marvel Comics characters, whose parent company was acquired by The Walt Disney Company in 2009.[5] The studio created new software technology to produce the film's animated visuals. Big Hero 6 premiered at the Tokyo International Film Festival on October 23, 2014 and at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival in 3D on October 31, 2014. It was theatrically released in the United States on November 7, 2014, and was met with highly positive reviews.In a futuristic metropolis called San Fransokyo (a portmanteau of San Francisco and Tokyo), Hiro Hamada is a 14-year-old genius robotics expert who spends his time in back alley robot fights. His older brother, Tadashi, worried that Hiro is wasting his potential, takes Hiro to the robotics lab at his university. There, Hiro meets Tadashi's friends GoGo Tomago, Wasabi, Honey Lemon and Fred as well as Baymax, a personal healthcare robot Tadashi created. Amazed, Hiro decides to apply to the school. With help from Tadashi, he designs his own project for the annual exhibition to gain admission. His invention — microbots, a swarm of tiny robots that can link together in any arrangement imaginable — impresses Professor Callaghan, the program head, and Hiro gets into the school. Alistair Krei, owner of the prestigious robotics company, Krei Tech, is also impressed and offers to buy Hiro's microbots but Hiro refuses. When a fire breaks out at at the university, Tadashi rushes in to rescue Callaghan, but the building explodes and both are presumed dead. As a result of losing his brother, Hiro secludes himself from others. One day, Hiro accidentally activates Baymax, and discovers a single microbot left in his jacket. Baymax thinks the microbot is trying to go somewhere and follows it to an abandoned warehouse, where he and Hiro discover that someone has been mass producing microbots. They are attacked by a masked man controlling the bots. Realizing this man has stolen his project, Hiro decides to catch him and upgrades Baymax with armor and a battle chip containing various karate moves. When the masked man attacks Hiro, GoGo, Wasabi, Honey and Fred, the group flees and hides out in Fred's family mansion. Hiro makes more upgrades to enable Baymax to find him, and provides his friends with super-hero suits when they join him in the fight.
