After a brief visit with his daughter, Kim, Bryan Mills is met by his former wife, Lenore. She tells him that she and husband, Stuart St. John, are having marital problems. She has rekindled romantic feelings for Bryan who refuses to become involved while she is still married. Later, Stuart warns Bryan to stay away from Lenore. The following day, Lenore texts Bryan asking to meet him. Bryan agrees, but upon returning to his apartment discovers Lenore's body. Almost immediately, the Los Angeles Police Department arrive to arrest Bryan on suspicion of murder. Bryan escapes and sets out to investigate the homicide. Meanwhile, LAPD Inspector Franck Dotzler, who quickly becomes familiar with Bryan's unique background, heads the manhunt to capture Bryan. Bryan recovers weapons and electronics from a secure location, then retraces Lenore's footsteps just prior to her murder. At a convenience store, he recovers surveillance footage of Lenore being abducted by unidentified men. LAPD detectives arrive and unknown to them, Bryan allows himself to be arrested, then commandeers the police car to access LAPD's computer system from the vehicle's laptop to analyze information. Later, Bryan meets with Kim on her college campus and he removes a surveillance bug that was unknowingly placed on her by the LAPD. She tells him about Stuart's bodyguards. Bryan abducts and interrogates Stuart, who reveals that his debt to an ex-KGB Spetsnaz and Afghan War veteran operative named Oleg Malankov was the probable motive for Lenore's murder. With assistance from his CIA colleagues and a reluctant Stuart, Bryan gains entry to Malankov's heavily-guarded suite. After killing the guard, he mortally wounds Malankov, who says that Stuart had played both men against each other. Meanwhile, Stuart shoots Bryan's CIA colleague, Sam, and abducts Kim, intending to flee the country with the US$12 million he's collected from Lenore's life insurance policy. Bryan chases Stuart to the airport just as Stuart's plane is being prepared for takeoff. After disabling the plane, Bryan overpowers Stuart, telling Stuart he will spend time in prison for his involvement in Lenore's murder. Bryan further tells Stuart that he will later answer for her death. Dotzler and the LAPD arrive and arrest Stuart. In the aftermath of Stuart's arrest, Kim, who is pregnant, informs Bryan that she wants to name her baby Lenore, after her mother.

Kyle Gallner Growing up in Texas, Chris Kyle's father teaches him how to hunt deer and shoot a rifle. Years later, Kyle is a rodeo cowboy when he sees news coverage of the 1998 U.S. embassy bombings and decides to enlist in the U.S. Navy, where he is eventually accepted for SEAL training, becoming a U.S. Navy SEAL sniper. Kyle meets Taya Renae at a bar, they marry, and he is sent to Iraq after the September 11 attacks of 2001. His first kills are of a woman and boy who attack U.S. Marines with a grenade. Kyle is visibly upset by the experience, but earns the nickname "Legend" for his many kills. He is assigned to hunt for the al-Qaeda leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. During house-to-house searches in evacuated areas, Kyle interrogates a family and for $100,000 the father offers to lead the SEALs to "The Butcher", second-in-command to al-Zarqawi, and whose favorite torture device is a drill. The plan goes awry when The Butcher captures the father and son and they are both killed while Kyle is pinned down by a sniper using an SVD. Meanwhile, the insurgents issue a bounty on Kyle. Kyle returns home to his wife and the birth of his son. He is distracted by memories of his war experiences, and argues with Taya over bootleg footage of U.S. Marines shot dead by enemy sniper "savages". Taya expresses her concern for them as a couple and wishes Kyle would focus on his home and family. Kyle leaves for a second tour, promoted to Chief Petty Officer. He is involved in a shoot out with The Butcher who is located operating out of a ground floor restaurant. Kyle returns home from his second tour to a newborn daughter, and he is increasingly distant from his family. On his third tour, a unit member is seriously injured by the Dragunov sniper and the unit is evacuated back to base. The unit decides to return to the field and continue the mission. Another SEAL is killed by gunfire, compelling Kyle with guilt and duty to undertake a fourth tour. Taya does not understand his decision, tells him she needs him, and for a moment, implies that they should stay apart. On tour four, the SVD-using expert insurgent sniper is identified as "Mustafa", and Kyle is assigned to take him out. Mustafa has been sniping U.S. Army combat engineers building a barricade. Kyle's sniper team is placed on a rooftop inside enemy territory. Kyle spots Mustafa, takes him out with a risky long distance shot at 2100 yards (the 8th longest sniper kill ever recorded), and exposes his team position to a large number of armed insurgents. In the midst of the firefight and low on ammunition, Kyle calls Taya and tells her he is ready to come home. A sandstorm provides cover for their chaotic escape in which Kyle is injured and almost left behind. Kyle returns home, on edge and unable to adjust fully to civilian life. He tells a Veterans Affairs psychiatrist he is "haunted by all the guys he couldn't save". The psychiatrist encourages him to help wounded veterans in the VA hospital. Kyle meets veterans who suffered severe injuries, coaches them at a shooting range in the woods, and gradually begins to adjust to home life.

After an incident where Noah—in defense of Kevin—slams a bully named Jason's head into a locker repeatedly, Vicky (who is vice principal at the school) discovers that Noah was kicked out of his previous school for disorderly conduct. After an encounter where Noah insults her, she expels him. During the fall fling, Claire goes to investigate a leak in the boy's bathroom, where she instead sees the words "I fucked Claire Peterson" written on the wall before Noah emerges. He attempts to force himself on her, but she fends him off and demands that he stay away from her and Kevin. The following day, Noah leaves a printer running in Claire's classroom, with images of them having sex scattered everywhere. When Garrett's car brakes fail to work, he and Kevin are nearly involved in an accident. Noah blackmails Claire; telling her that he has a tape of them having sex, which he will relinquish to her if she continues sleeping with him. She refuses, and organizes a plot with Vicky to steer Noah away from his house. Claire breaks into Noah's house and sees hundreds of images of herself in his basement. She finds his laptop, deleting their sex tape, and also sees images of car brakes, implying that he rigged Garrett's brakes. She meets with a detective (François Chau) who informs her that Noah's father was killed after swerving into a truck with his minivan. Noah binds and gags Vicky, using an audio recording of her voice to lure Claire to her house. When Claire arrives, she discovers Vicky's dead body, with her throat having been slashed by Noah. A horrified Claire contacts the police, but runs into Noah again. He reveals to her that his mother killed herself after his father cheated on her, so he rigged the brakes of his father's minivan, killing him and his mistress. Noah takes Claire to a barn house where he has kidnapped Garrett and Kevin, threatening to kill them unless Claire stays with him. A violent altercation occurs as Claire attempts to free them. Noah pours kerosene around the barn, causing it to ignite in flames. Garrett, having freed himself, attempts to choke Noah with a rope, prompting Noah to shoot him in the chest. Claire stabs Noah's eye with Kevin's EpiPen, and when he later holds Kevin at gunpoint, she pulls a switch that drops an engine on him. This effectively kills Noah. Claire and Kevin help a wounded Garrett exit the burning barn house.

With the help of furloughed convict Nicholas Hathaway (Hemsworth), the authorities pursue the mysterious figure through Chicago, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, and Jakarta.The film was tentatively titled Cyber, however the final title was revealed on July 26, 2014 during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con International, and it was being estimated that it might qualify for the Oscars.[6] The first official trailer for the film was released on September 25, 2014.[5] Filming began on May 17, 2013, in Los Angeles, California; Hong Kong; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; and Jakarta, Indonesia. Director Michael Mann donated HK$300,000 (US$38,500) to The Community Chest of Hong Kong in the name of Hang Seng Bank, to thank the bank for allowing him to film Blackhat for five evenings in the bank's lobby area. In November 2013, Universal Pictures set North American release date for January 16, 2015. Shortly after the official premiere of the movie, composer Henry Gregson-Williams stated that although he is credited for the score the final film "contains almost none of my compositions". He would later delete the status update containing this information.

Jimmy Callahan provides best man best man services (Kevin Hart). As Doug Harris (Josh Gad), a successful tax attorney, and his fiancee Gretchen Palmer (Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting) are planning for their wedding day, Doug becomes frantic searching for a best man. He faints and is referred to Jimmy's company, The Best Man Inc., by his party planner, Edmundo (Ignacio Serricchio). Doug is sent to The Best Man Inc., which is located under an amusement park by Otis (Corey Holcomb). Doug meets Jimmy and asks him to pull off a "Golden Tux" (seven groomsmen) to match with Gretchen's bridesmaids, which has never been done before. Jimmy refuses, claiming he is complacent and doesn't need the pressure. When Doug offers him $50,000, all expenses paid, Jimmy agrees to be Doug's best man. When going over the formalities for the wedding, Doug tells Jimmy his name is Bic Mitchum. Jimmy recruits some former friends. Fitzgibbons (Colin Kane), a criminal who escaped from a federal prison, agrees to be a groomsman because there will be seven bridesmaids to hit on. Next, he recruits Lurch (Jorge Garcia), a mechanic, who agrees to get away from his nagging family. Lastly, he recruits Reggie (Affion Crockett), an airline security agent, who agrees because there will be good food. Jimmy, his secretary Doris (Jenifer Lewis), Fitzgibbons, Lurch, and Reggie, interview people willing to fill the three remaining spots based on their "party trick distractions." They choose Kip (Alan Ritchson), a sexy man with a stutter, Endo (Aaron Takahashi), who has three testicles, Bronstein (Dan Gill), who can dislocate and relocate his shoulder, and Otis, who can say every sentence backwards. Doug, excited, tells Gretchen that "Bic" flew in from El Salvador, and he will be at the wedding. He also shows her two honeymoon tickets to Tahiti. Gretchen insists that Bic comes to the family brunch. Doug meets Jimmy and they memorize their identities. Doug also tells Jimmy that he must act as a military priest from North Dakota. At the brunch, Gretchen's father Ed (Howard), asks Jimmy what part of North Dakota he's from, since he has a ranch there. Doug becomes nervous and almost blows his own cover until Jimmy accidentally sets Grandma (Cloris Leachman), on fire. They take her to the emergency room, and Jimmy makes up a lie to Ed that Doug used to play football. Ed challenges Jimmy and Doug to a football game with some of his old college teammates.

Doug meets his groomsmen, who he is not fond of. Doris gives all of them fake identities, all of which share the last names of famous Los Angeles sports figures (Plunkett), (Rambis), (Garvey), (Alzado), (Drysdale), (Carew), and (Dickerson) they have to memorize. Jimmy takes the groomsmen on fake photoshoots of skydiving, scuba-diving, and climbing mountains. As Jimmy realizes Doug is beginning to doubt him, he takes him to Eduardo's house. Doug learns Eduardo's flamboyant personality is just a ruse for better business. To prove to Doug how good he is at being a best man, Jimmy takes Doug to a wedding where the best man makes a terrible speech. After, they have drinks and show off their dance moves. The two drink after the wedding and talk. Jimmy said he was a very good best man for a minor friend which led to his career as a wedding ringer. Doug said that his father was an international tax attorney and moved frequently as a child, so he never got to make friends. He also tells Jimmy he's never been on a "guy trip." When his parents died, Doug took over the business, and work consumed him, leaving him without a best man. Jimmy drives Doug home, and reiterates that they are in a business relationship, and Doug agrees.

In the deep jungles of darkest Peru, an explorer named Montgomery Clyde locates a family of semi intelligent bears, who he realises can learn English and have a deep appetite for marmalade. He tells them they are always welcome should they wish to go to Britain. The bears, Lucy and Pastuzo, live in harmony with their nephew. One day, an earthquake strikes their home, forcing them to seek shelter underground. Pastuzo is unable to reach the shelter and disappears (Paddington retrieves his hat), and Lucy encourages her nephew to go and find solace in London while she moves into a retirement home for old bears. The young bear reaches London but fails to find a home, until he is taken in briefly by the Brown family, who name him Paddington. Henry Brown is adamant that Paddington stay only one night while they find a place for him to live permanently. Paddington causes a series of accidents across the house which lead the family to further ostracise him. Paddington believes he can find a home with the explorer who found them, Montgomery Clyde. The Browns find out that Paddington's hat, given to him by Pastuzo, is in fact Clyde's hat and valuable artifact, and thus they take it to an antique store to locate Clyde. Meanwhile, a sadistic museum taxidermist Millicent captures and stuffs exotic animals to house in the Natural History Museum. When she becomes aware of Paddington, she immediately tries to hunt him down. With the help of Mr. Brown, Paddington locates archives that reveal a series of names that fit "M Clyde", and they use phone books to locate the addresses of each one. While Paddington remains home alone, Millicent, scheming with the Browns' neighbour Reginald Curry, sneaks in and tries to capture Paddington; he inadvertently repels her, but also sets part of the house on fire. The Browns disbelieve his story of Millicent's attempt to capture him and assume that he must move into a new home as soon as possible. Paddington, feeling unwanted at the Browns, leaves and tries to locate Montgomery Clyde himself. When he finally locates the house, he finds out Clyde died many years ago, and it is revealed Millicent is his daughter - who was bitter towards her father for failing to capture a specimen of the bears he claimed to have found, an act which also granted him disdain from the museum itself. She manages to tranquillise Paddington and prepare him for stuffing, but Mr. Curry betrays her when discovering her true intentions and informs the Brown family of the events. They immediately rush to save Paddington, who is detained in the museum. They manage to rescue him, and Paddington subdues Millicent by throwing a marmalade sandwich at her, which attracts a huge flock of pigeons. In the end, the Browns adopt Paddington into their family and Millicent is sentenced to community service at an animal shelter. Paddington writes to Aunt Lucy saying he is happy and has found a home at last.

With the words "Once Upon a Time," the Narrator introduces four characters who each have a wish: Cinderella wishes to attend the King's festival; Jack, a simple young man, wishes that his cow, Milky White, would give milk; and The Baker and his Wife wish they could have a child. While Little Red Riding Hood buys bread from the Baker to take to her grandmother's house, Jack's weary mother nags him into selling the cow, and Cinderella's stepmother and stepsisters Florinda and Lucinda tease her about wanting to attend the King's festival. The Baker's neighbor, an ugly old witch, reveals the source of the couple's infertility is a curse she placed on the Baker's line after catching the Baker's father in her garden stealing "magic" beans. In addition to the curse, the Witch took the Baker's father's newborn child Rapunzel. She explains the curse will be lifted if the Baker and his Wife can find the four ingredients that the Witch needs for a certain potion; "the cow as white as milk, the cape as red as blood, the hair as yellow as corn, and the slipper as pure as gold," all before the chime of midnight in three days' time. All begin their journeys into the woods — Jack goes to the market to sell his beloved pet Milky White, Cinderella's family goes to the Festival while Cinderella goes to her mother's grave to ask for guidance, Little Red goes to her Grandmother's house, and the Baker, refusing his wife's help, goes to find the ingredients ("Prologue"). Cinderella visits her mother's grave and receives a beautiful gown and golden slippers from her mother's spirit ("Cinderella at the Grave"). Jack encounters a Mysterious Man who mocks him for trying to sell his cow for more than a "sack of beans" and then vanishes. Little Red Riding Hood meets a hungry Wolf who convinces her to take a detour on her way to Granny's ("Hello, Little Girl"). The Baker sees Little Red Riding Hood in the woods, and when the Witch appears, screaming at him to get the red cape, he is so frightened that he forgets the ingredients he needs. Luckily his wife, who followed him into the forest, reminds him. They are squabbling over her presence when they come across Jack with Milky White. Not having the money necessary to buy the cow, they convince Jack that the beans the Baker has found in his father's old hunting jacket are magic and buy the cow for five of them. Jack bids a tearful goodbye to his cow ("I Guess This Is Goodbye"), and the Baker orders his wife to return to the village with the cow. He has qualms about being so dishonest, but his wife reasons that the chance to have a child justifies their trickery ("Maybe They're Magic".) Meanwhile, it is revealed that the Witch has raised Rapunzel as her own daughter, keeping her locked away from the world in a tall tower in the middle of the woods, accessible only by climbing Rapunzel's long, golden hair ("Our Little World"). However, a handsome prince spies the beautiful Rapunzel and resolves to climb the tower himself. In another part of the wood, the Baker has tracked down Little Red Riding Hood. Following the Witch's advice, he attempts to simply steal the red cape, but her ensuing temper tantrum guilts him into returning it. When Little Red Riding Hood arrives at her grandmother's house, she is swallowed by the Wolf. The Baker, in pursuit of the cape, slays the Wolf, pulling Little Red Riding Hood and her grandmother from the beast's innards. Little Red Riding Hood rewards him with the red cape, reflecting on her new experiences ("I Know Things Now"). Meanwhile, Jack's mother angrily tosses the beans aside and sends her son to bed without supper. As Cinderella flees the Festival, pursued by another handsome prince and his steward, the Wife helps her hide and quizzes Cinderella about the ball. Cinderella explains that it was a nice ball ("A Very Nice Prince") but seems fairly ambivalent about the experience. As a giant beanstalk begins to sprout from the ground next to Jack's cottage, the Baker's Wife spots Cinderella's pure gold slippers. She tries to chase after Cinderella but inadvertently allows Milky White to run off, leaving the Baker's Wife without the slippers or the cow. The characters each state morals and credos as the first midnight chimes ("First Midnight") and they continue their journeys through the woods.
